Happy Halloween

I'm off out tonight for halloween for a spooky one with Ed Cox and some dub, ska, gypsy and electro swing bands which should be wicked. It's 8 quid to get in at coalition so head down. Here's a taster:

That's Something I Do

Apologies for slacking on the posting recently but I've been doing other stuff, aiming to get posting properly from tomorrow but for now here's a song I love.

Dj Premier & Lord Finesse To Release New Big L Album

Dj Premier has announced he will be working with Lord Finesse on a third and final full-length album from the legendary Big L. According to a blog i read, Mother of the late Big L found a lot of unreleased acappellas in his closet that were recorded into pro tools. Dj Premier & Finesse plan to take all this unreleased stuff and put it into one last album in memory of Big L. Should be very exciting! BIG L REST IN PEACE

Tom Waits

Only in the last couple of months have I really discovered Tom Waits, I'd known about him of course, but never given him a fair chance until I got given the compilation CD he did for Mojo magazine a while ago. It's an amazing mix of old blues, folk and bar tunes and stayed on repeat for 3 or 4 weeks in my bedroom. Small Change has to be my favourite album, here are some tunes you have to listen to.

Icky Sticky Stuff

Was just looking around soundcloud and found these bangers.
Fuck Acid by Sticky Disco
Kanji Kinetic - W-ITEM GLITCH by Maltine Records
madmaid - telstar by Maltine Records

Change is coming

Heralds Of Change are Hudson Mohawke and Mike Slott so I can't believe I didn't listen to their stuff properly until the other week. I had heard some stuff on a HudMo EP but wasn't that impressed. These two tracks more than converted me.

Robot Koch in the house.

Robot Koch is arguably one of the finest producers around at the moment. Hailing from Berlin, seemingly a hub of quality beat producers, his music manages to be dancey and intelligent as well as ambient and accessible. I highly recommend his album Death Star Droid, said by John Peel to be pop music from the future. Check out a few of my favourite tunes. robot koch - gorom sen by robot koch robot koch - hard to find by robot koch robot koch_away from by robot koch

Z-Kat

Some good electro-bassline tracks here by Z-Kat, long time friend and collaborator with the one and only Kanji Kinetic. Check out the awesome music video as well. Infra-Red Lights by Z-Kat Kurva Riddim VIP by Z-Kat On The Iron Road (dub) [clip] by Z-Kat DJ Tuco - Disco Kicks (Z-Kat Remix) by Z-Kat

Mos Dub

OK so I already posted this a few days ago but I tried to edit it using my PS3 and it managed to delete half the post. Mos Dub is a remix album by Max Tannone who you may know from the Jaydiohead album he did a while ago, if not then it's well worth checking that out too. If you didn't know that Mos Def was a sick rapper (and a massive MF Doom fan according to my friend) then you might recognise him from his role in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy film. Anyone this album is his vocals put to beats made up of classic reggae, ska and dub and if that doesn't sell it to you then maybe the fact that its completely free will. Mos Dub by Max Tannone

Oh No - Ethiopium

Not a recent album, but one I thought needed posting. Oh No (Younger Brother of Madlib) created this album using samples strictly from rare 60s and 70s Ethiopian funk, jazz, folk, soul and psychedelic rock. Got to be one of my favorite instrumental LP's out there.
Here's a zip to the album, and a few tracks below for you to get an idea of what it's about.

Jazz Liberatorz

If you like hip hop and jazz..then look no further for the combination. Three wild producers from France who have bagged a load of dope rappers including Mos Def and Fatlip (Pharcyde) for a couple of albums, both on wax for all you diggers out there! Free download of one of the albums HERE

Ta-ku - Tribute

Available on Bandcamp sooooooon

I had never heard of this guys before a couple of days ago and still don't know much about him. This album is 27 tracks of heavily Dilla influenced beats, in tribute to his legacy. Making good use of chopped up soul samples and heavy kick drums I reckon there are a few tracks on this album that Dilla himself would be proud of. Download FREE in high quality HERE. He has also done a Nujabes tribute album called Tribute to Jun available on iTunes worth checking out.
Here's a little taster. Click the arrow to download.

A to Jump?

Basically, I don't like the blog name so we want suggestions on a better name. Comment on this post with suggestions, if you don't know how to do that; click on the post title and scroll down a bit. I have just made it so non-members can post but that doesn't mean you shouldn't sign up.

bugseed

Bohemian Beatnik LP Cover Art
So you might have noticed that the last post says by Jesse Doyle at the bottom, Jesse is gonna be posting a load (hopefully) of hip-hop on here seeing as he knows his shit a lot more than me. I called posting this one though and I'll probably sneak another hip-hop post later today.
So this ones from japanese producer bugseed, it's one of the best hip-hop albums I've heard in a while, jazzy beats with really heavy bass. FREE download at his bandcamp HERE.

A Few Random Tracks

Just thought I'd posted a few tracks I've been listening to recently, mostly folk and indie and that.

First up is my favourite Bob Dylan track and one that I could not find any links on the internet apart from covers on Youtube so I decided to upload it especially for you guys.
Bob Dylan - I Was Young When I Left Home

Erik Lau Drops New Instrumental LP "Makin' Sound"

Erik Lau is a London-based producer, who is relatively new on the scene. One of those producers that you may well of heard, but not heard of. Through production for the likes of Lupe Fiasco, Guilty Simpson, Wildchild and many more. Anyway here's an interview and full preview of his latest LP..really liking this one! Slick instrumentals, have a listen.
